Papilio

A Diary of Travels, Romance and Adventures

Veronica Dewilde

Veronica Dewilde is an open-minded, out-of -the-box thinking world explorer, entrepreneur and mom of 2 amazing kids. She was born and raised in Belgium. Growing up consuming American culture through the ’70s and ’80s through TV, movies, fashion, and music, she fell in love with the idea that everyone is created equal with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The idea of them was her driving force; that yes, life can be better, as long as you take the opportunities that come along or you create your opportunities.

After graduating college she then embarked on her adventure through the US. During her travels she became part of very different lifestyles, which often challenged her own ethics and values.

After 14 months, she returned to her homeland, Belgium, only to realize that her trip had unlocked who she truly is, Thus Papilio was born.

I’m 3/4 through your book. What a delightful (and sometimes painful) account of your youth. I can sense both your angst, desperation and desire to seek and find your path, and also the depth of your love(s) along the way. Many of us can relate to the feelings of lostness , seeking value, self-worth, and purpose in our life journey so I appreciated your sharing your honest thoughts and struggles. I also heard myself laughing out loud, or groaning or wondering “Oh no, what else can go wrong?”

Love the title Papilio, it makes sense and apparently it suits you! And the cover artwork is spot-on and gorgeous too.

I’m looking forward to the last several chapters.

I’ve always loved the not average so for me the way this book is written allows me to really get into her experience.

It brings nostalgia for the 90’s and coming of age experiences.

I loved reading about her real life stories. She loves life! She can’t get enough! She has the desire to embrace all of life - to experience it! I met her while on her travels and she is just as vibrant in real life as she is in her books! She has an amazing talent for bringing her readers into her books. She absolutely loves the USA!

About the book

“The American Dream”—as experienced through the eyes of an idealistic free-spirited, adventurous young girl from Belgium. I grew up consuming American culture through the ‘70s and ‘80s through TV, movies, fashion, and music. I was in love with the idea that we were all created equal with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In the summer of 1999, at the end of one of the longest heatwaves in history, I arrived in New York City with two thousand dollars in my jeans. I was ready to take on the world and the big apple.
